HMH Classcraft
Whole-Classroom Instruction platform
Overview
HMH Classcraft is an interactive teaching and learning experience embedded in HMH Ed that helps teachers plan and run live, whole-class lessons while students participate on their own devices.
Problem
- Teachers are handed static lesson resources and expected to make daily instruction feel dynamic and engaging — without much support for how to actually run the room.
- Students sit passively through lessons that weren’t designed for participation, making it hard for teachers to gauge understanding in real time.
Solution
- Classcraft gives teachers a full session organizer — ready-made 45-minute lessons they can launch, step through, and adapt without building everything from scratch.
- Live sessions sync between the teacher’s screen and every student’s device, turning instruction into a shared, structured experience with activities like polls, quick checks, and turn-and-talk prompts.
- Built-in tools like a countdown timer, a random student picker, and dynamic grouping help teachers manage the room without losing momentum.
- All content is authored through a dedicated pipeline (Plankton Studio) so lessons are always standards-aligned and ready to use out of the box.
Impact
- Teachers spend less time planning and more time actually teaching, with guided sessions that reduce the cognitive load of running a live classroom.
- Students go from passive observers to active participants, with structured touchpoints that make their thinking visible throughout the lesson.
- Classcraft brings meaningful, real-time interactivity into daily instruction at scale, embedded directly inside the platform teachers already use.
